Snow-Bound? Get Soap-Bound!

From Allie Leeds, About.com GuideFebruary 9, 2010

Millions of people are snowed in (or are about to be) in the Midwest or on the East Coast. If you're snowbound and channel-surfing, you might not have watched soaps in years - if ever. Below are some links with quick background on each major soap to get you up to speed.  By the time the storm passes, you might be hooked!

One Life to Live: The Buchanan, Lord and Cramer families come together - and tear apart - over matters of love and money. About.com Guide Katherine Thurston's "OLTL 101" gives you all the background.

General Hospital: Family drama abounds, but the hospital has always been the center of this soap. About.com Guide Maria Ciaccia has thorough history and character profiles.

Days of Our Lives: The Horton and Brady families go through great joy and tremendous despair in the town of Salem. About.com Guide Gwen Morett's "Days 101" is your one-stop resource to get up to speed on this soap.

The Bold and the Beautiful: This show is all about the Forresters, a fashion dynasty. Check out this overview for a full lay of the land.

As the World Turns: Five families, some rich and some not-so-rich, have been mixing it up for decades. This history of the show will fill in much of the background.

The Young and the Restless: The Abbot and Newman families are the center of this longtime favorite, and a cosmetics company called Jabot often hangs in the balance. Here's a helpful overview.

LOL Allie. My daughter probably won’t be going to school tomorrow so we’re going to snuggle up and drink cocoa and watch soaps all day. Mother-daughter bonding to the max.

if you know the story of “Days”, you know the story of our family. It’s a crazy life, but it’s OUR life. Thank you Kate Gosselin.

Great idea! I’ve actually heard a couple of people mention watching soap operas for the first time in years due to the snow storm on Twitter.

Ugh — I’m in Philadelphia. Both today and yesterday they were constantly interupting my soaps with weather reports. I can look out the window and see that its snowing! Let me see my soaps!
