Y&R's Cady McClain Writes a Revealing Memoir: Murdering My Youth

Sunday April 20, 2014

Murdering My Youth

The Young and the Restless star Cady McClain, who took over the role of Kelly Andrews this past week, is also the author of Murdering My Youth: A Memoir, revealing the horrors of her childhood: alcoholism, madness, sexual abuse, and more.

Cady talked to TV Guide about the book, which took her five years to write, saying, "I originally wrote it as a fiction piece because I wasn't ready to say, 'This happened to me.' I really struggled with the idea of forgiving my parents but I persevered. I had to get the story out of me."

McClain writes about her years as a child actor, during which she was the sole support of her family, and, how as a result, she had a rough time visiting Los Angeles for more than two days at a time because of the memories that came flooding back, including the fact that her parents spent all the money she had earned as a child actor.
