Bridgette's Nightmare

Bridgette walked to the pool and sat down and waited. She was waiting for Nick. Nick, the man she was falling in love with. Nick, the man who continues to tell her that he is over her mother and has moved on. Nick.....

She just didn't know if she could believe him. It seemed like every man she seemed to be able to like enough to eventually love was or had been in love with her mother. She threw her hands in the air and screamed silently, "Why me? Why can't I just find somebody that has never known my mother, somebody that only knows me."

Her thoughts were interrupted as the phone rings and Nick's voice comes through loud and clear on the other end. "Bridgette, my car has a flat and I can't find the tire tool. I tried to flag somebody down, but they're passing me like, OH MY GOD........ he's not stopping...... he's coming toward me.... OH MY GOD....."

The next thing she hears is a horrible crashing noise and then ..... nothing.

Bridgette waits, hoping Nick will call her back and when he doesn't, she tries to call him and gets a computer generated message, "the number you are trying to reach is not in-service at this time... "

Bridgette takes a deep breath and tries not to think about the implications of the call, but she can't think about anything else.

She picks up the phone and calls Massimo and tells him what happened and Massimo tells her he will find out what is going on and call her right back.

Massimo's company actually owns the car Nick drives and the company has a tracking device in every car and Massimo gets the "tracking" going and waits.

Within minutes, Nick's location is given to Massimo with information that the vehicle has been in an accident and the Highway Patrol is at the scene.

Massimo is stunned, but with his usual calm, he calls Jackie and tells her he is own his way to pick up her. She doesn't want to upset Massimo any more than he already is with her, so she agrees, even though things are still unsettled between them. Massimo grimaces as he imagines Jackie's reaction to Nick's accident.

In the car, he calls Bridgette and tells her the news. Bridgette tells him she will meet them at the hospital. She calls Brooke and tells her about the accident and Brooke is at the hospital with Stephanie, so she says she will be on the look out for the Rescue Unit and will keep in touch.

Bridgette calls Massimo and tells him Brooke is at the hospital with Stephanie and Brooke will keep them posted with any news.

Again Bridgette feels that Brooke has upstaged her, but of course, Brooke had no ulterior motives to be at the hospital because of Nick. "This is crazy," Bridgette whispers to herself, "Mom is there because of Stephanie, not Nick. How stupid am I being."

Trying to hurry, being careless, not watching the road carefully, all those things crossed her mind as she watched in slow motion as her car turned and twisted across the interstate and slowly came to a halt in front of an embankment. She took a deep breath and noticed that people were pulling off the highway and running toward her. She tried to wave at them, to tell them she was alright, but she couldn't' move her hand. She tried to yell at them, but she couldn't make a sound. Then she felt very cold and that's when she saw the beautiful shining lady. She seemed to be hovering right beside her, but Bridgette didn't' know how that could be. Bridgette tried to talk, but couldn't, but the lady touched her arm and Bridgette felt peaceful.

"Bridgette, you are a wonderful, God-gifted young woman. You are going to be alright, but first there are things that have to be done to fix this man-made mess that you are in. I am keeping a close eye on you and now, I want you to sleep." That being said, the lady touched her head and Bridgette felt such peace it was almost overpowering and she glanced up and the lady was smiling and Bridgette knew she was going to be alright.

That's the last thing she remembered until she came to in the hospital, with nurses screaming orders, doctor's screaming ... Cat Scans, MRI of her head... and then she silently went to that place of peace and waited....waited for the lady to come and tell her what to do.

Brooke was standing at the emergency room door, watching as a reluctant Nick told the hospital staff that he was O.K. and didn't need any help, when Brooke's phone rang. She didn't look before answering, because she knew it wasn't Ridge and really didn't want to talk to anyone else right now, but it might be about the children.
