Censor's Passions Commentary - Best and Worst of 2004

From Censor, for About.com

Hey guys-- this one was a HARD column to write.. and I'm sure I missed some things as it was a particularly busy year, and there was certainly a lot of material to choose from, but ultimately-- hey.. it is MY column, right? So I reserve the right to completely ignore/dismiss/downright LEAVE OUT plotlines that I just didn't care about. Cheers to all my faithful readers and I hope you like it!!

Best Actor-- Nobody. Not one man in Harmony deserves this title this year. But I am taking up a fund so that we can purchase Sam, Luis, Julian, Fox, Ethan, TC, Martin, Chad and Little Ethan water purifiers. Because they ALL need to STOP drinking the water in this godforsaken town! This is getting ridiculous. Never mind the fact that there are only 10 males in this town left, and ONE OF THEM (Little Ethan) is still a little kid-- and there are at least 20 women, the men in this town are DOWNRIGHT STUPID. Period. They've all turned into complete morons. So nobody wins this title.

Best Actress-- Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald. And NO-- I did not pick Theresa just because I prefer her character in her storylines. I picked Theresa because she has pulled off some excellent work this year. From Linday's heart wrenching scenes when her child was ripped from her arms, to surviving the fall at the Crane Mansion, to pleading with her arch-rival Gwen for her son, to her outrageous scheme to steal the embryo, to her BEYOND DEVIOUS plan to rape Ethan to the birth of her second child-- Lindsay has stolen the screen. Even when she disappeared from our beloved screens to give birth to her daughter in real life, she fit back into the storyline immediately upon her return. Lindsay's portrayal of Theresa is truly deserving of a Daytime Emmy, and she had BETTER get at least a few nominations for the numerous awards that are given to soap operas. It is about time that the soap world took notice of her extraordinary talent and her drive to show us an unbelievable performance each and every time.

Best Supporting Actor-- Alistair Crane. Man, do I LOVE TO HATE THIS MAN. But Alistair's scenes this year were absolutely legendary. The absolute lack of feeling that this man emotes is almost fascinating. And to see this man trumped by the woman who he drove away all those years ago was great to see. In light of David Bailey's death-- it just really brought into focus Alistair's performance of the last year.

Best Supporting Actress-- Gwen Winthrop. Again, I am not playing favorites. Liza Huber is always nominated in the SA category, because she is a supporting player. Her job is to be the antithesis of Theresa. No matter which side these two are on. Liza has less screen time than Lindsay-- so she isn't considered in the MAIN characters category. That said, Liza's performances this year were EXTRAORDINARY!! She is the girl you love to hate or hate to love.. it is crazy the amount of talent that Liza has shown-- I thought that she had reached her peak with Sarah's death scenes last year, but that is NOTHING to the scenes we were rewarded with this year. She was phenomenal at showing her rage and anger and utter hatred of Theresa, and that makes her the best because THAT IS HER JOB. She and Lindsay take turns being the "heel" in their little rivalry-- and they both play off each other extraordinarily. Liza is an unbelievable talent who suits her role to a tee and I can only expect that she will get more than a few nominations this year, and that they will be EXTREMELY well-deserved. Though I find myself on her side sometime short of NEVER.. I still can't FAST-FORWARD through a single scene, I just *cannot* wait to hear what is going to fly out of her mouth next. And that is worth it's weight in GOLD. Especially on this show.

Worst Actor-- TC Russell. Waste of space on this show. Nuff said.

Worst Actress-- Liz Sanbourne. What I said about TC.
