1. Episode 7 marks the introduction of Brendan Gill as Father
Ramirez, a character who'd been referred to since the premiere of the
series. He was a welcome addition to the show, and instantly got the
"sense of humor" about the series with his delivery of my favorite
line to Virginia Corrigan: "I'm divinely inspired." He continues to
play the role as a smug, stuffy, sarcastic and slightly psycho priest
-- absolutely NO reflection of my days in Catholic high school.
2. Actress Pamela Clay is also introduced in this episode as Sandie
Taylor, Heaven's mother who washed up on shore dead. An interesting
reveal is the fact that no one in the cast had met her prior to
shooting the footage found on the video tape; in fact, when
Jacqueline Bradley turns on the tape and sees her mother (Sandie), it
was the first time she had ever watched the video footage and was
freaked out. We shot the footage of Pamela as Sandie in a hotel room
late at night, and from the moment she put on the blonde wig, she
BECAME Sandie Taylor. In episode 8, she begins her stint as Sandie's
twin sister, Ruthie Taylor.
3. We always refer to the scene between James and Alicia (Bruce
Blauer and Ciera Rose Allen) as the longest scene in CH&S history.
It went on and on and on. And on. During the scene, Bruce
accidentally dropped his towel and we were all in for a big surprise!
4. Did you know that when the show airs Wednesday nights, the whole
cast gets together and watches the episode?
5. The scene where Dominic (Bram Hoover) engineers Heaven looking
like she's crazy in front of the whole family took 5 hours to shoot
because of all the coverage.
6. We had to delete a sequence of dialogue between Lexy (Brianna
Rose) and Father Ramirez, as it was a bit too racy. So, too, a scene
between Ramirez and KC (Kali Cook)... right before she slaps him.
But it remains in the Japanese edition and is one of my favorite
moments!
