What a great day at the set of All My Children! The press junket - the last official ABC press junket for the show - lasted all day and we got to talk with almost everyone in the cast, including the incredible Susan Lucci, who said the end of All My Children on ABC "hasn't sunk in yet," for her. Everyone was so wonderful, and despite the unknown future of the soap, they were all genuinely affected by the outpouring of fan support from all of you that just might keep the show alive. I'll be able to share those interviews with you in a few weeks as we're sworn to secrecy until then.
But I can tell you that I asked Debbie Morgan (Angie) about her new role on The Young and the Restless, which she will begin taping a day or two after AMC wraps on ABC at the end of August. Debbie, who attended a brunch held in honor of AMC's legendary creator Agnes Nixon this past Sunday, says Nixon was understandably upset about her move to another soap. "Agnes had tears in her eyes and she said, 'Debbie, I can't believe this is happening. How long is your contract over there?' And I said, 'I signed a two-year contract Agnes.' And she said, 'I'll be dead by then!' I was like, 'Agnes, don't say that!' Her daughter, to lighten the moment said, 'Well Mom, whatever you have to write for her you better write it now.'"
"I'm ready to move on," says Debbie. "As much as [Angie] has meant to me as an actress, I'm definitely ready for another challenge."
When I asked her if she could give us a teaser about her Y&R character, Debbie replied, "I will just say this, she won't have any traces of Angie! That's about as much as I can say right now."
