Censor's Passions Commentary - August 02, 2004

The show was on FIRE this week :)  Loved, Loved, Loved it.  But I suggest you all sit back with your favorite beverage, because ONCE again-- Censor feels a RANT coming on.

JEERS-- Anything to do in Mexico.  This whole storyline is completely freakin' ludicrous!!  Let me get this straight, Sheridan is sleeping, hears Katherine singing, and it matches the song and the VOICE from her childhood memories, but she drops the "mom?" comment-- UGH!  The writers are just gonna DRAG this one out, aren't they?  Isaac will be 8 years old before Luis and the gang get back to Harmony.  Jeez-- little Martin will be 1/2 way to his doctorate degree by then, won't he?!?  He'll probably be studying the periodic table with Precious.. since we know his mother won't be helping him-- she'll probably STILL be trying to kill Sheridan! :)

Paloma's scenes, while powerful, just really annoy the ever loving crizzap out of me!!  The story would be so more plausible if the writers hadn't spent FIVE years telling us that Paloma was loved, taken care of, and held no bad feelings toward her family.  Now she's spouting off to Luis.

CHEERS-- To Sheridan's face when they were in the club, though.  Her facial expressions were PRICELESS!!  The mouth gaping open look was just perfect for the situation.. even though Paloma's dancing wasn't all that risque.. shoot-- Rebecca traisping around in the Britney Spears/python getup was WAY more provocative than Paloma's "attempt at Havana Nights".. but I digress.  Hey-- Sheridan didn't even see Bex in that getup, Fox did-- which brings me to..

JEERS-- Fox!!  What in the world are they doing to this guy?!?  Spare me the "fool-for-love" plight.. it is so tired, and just totally symptomatic of everything that is wrong with this show.  The only men on this show who ever REALLY stand up for themselves are TC and Alistair.  One is a raging anger-aholic, who destroyed 1/2 his house when he discovered that *gasp* Eve wasn't perfect last week.  (Is anyone EVER really perfect?) and Alistair, who needs no explanation.  That man is evil personified.

But back to Fox-- we had some really touching scenes with Theresa, and I gotta hand it to these two.. they are pure chemistry on screen.. even if Theresa is unbelievable in the "I just want you and Whitney to be happy" and "Mama, I don't think Whitney really loves Chad" crizzap they have her spouting.  Fox and Whitney have absolutely NOTHING.  They might in the future-- but certainly NOT NOW.  All Fox is getting is the brush off.  Why in the world is he in the Russell house, laying witness to the unravelling of that family?!?  It is almost as misplaced as Theresa lurking in the hospital last summer when Sarah died.  (I know, I know-- it's not AS bad-- but still just as tacky.)  Whitney keeps telling him to go away and Fox just won't listen.  (Is anyone else noticing a parallel here between Theresa and Fox?!?  Both Ethan and Whitney have/are telling these two to bail, they want nothing to do with them.. but there sit Theresa and Fox on their "I-know-you-really-love-me" matching soapboxes.)

Gwen's crazy.  Throwing that plate across the room in *disgust* when she was just wishing Theresa the best and gushing about how she was going to be a mom.  Of course-- the writers only allow Gwen mere moments of sanity before they force her to become completely unhinged, so this behavior comes as absolutely NO surprise :)

What is up with Ethan and the sardines and ice cream.  Whatever book he is reading has to be the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard.  "Gee, Gwen-- I know that your arch rival is carrying our child, but hey-- I'll keep invoking the name of our dead daughter, and comparing this surrogacy to the pain of your real pregnancy."  Are they freakin' kidding?!?  And you wonder why Gwen is going nuts!  She's married to this MORON!  Gwen and Ethan walk in on Theresa telling Pilar that she won't give GweThan "this baby."  Who wants to bet that Theresa will be allowed the chance to explain this all away, and it will be a completely RIDICULOUS explanation?  "I was talking about Little Ethan" or something stupid.  UGH!!

That said, when in the WORLD did Gwen agree to give Little Ethan back to Theresa once the baby was born?  I must have missed that episode.  I assumed she was lying-- but they are really selling this as something Gwen and Ethan have decided on.  So much for Gwen "not letting Theresa win."  Of course, this all may be because Bex has been missing on screen, and is therefore inable to keep Gwen from thinking irrationally :)  I'm sure Gwen will be singing a different tune once Bex returns to the manse.  I hate to say this-- but I have been missing Bex.  I may hate everything that comes out of her mouth, but the fact remains-- Andrea brings an incredible energy to every scene she is in.. and things have been a little drab lately.  I'm ready for some spice :)

(True reason for Andrea's absence-- she and her husband adopted a baby.. on-screen reason-- well at least according to Fox's inbox is that Bex is out of town.)  Well-- whether we're ready for it or not-- Bex is back starting in about a week and a half-- so everyone get ready!!

JEERS-- Miguel's exit.  Kay's feeble attempt at comparing Miguel to Martin was so heavy-handed.  No wonder Jesse wasn't sad about his exit.  BLAH BLAH BLAH.. I snoozed through these scenes.  Once again-- I lament my hatred for the writers for this HUGE missed opportunity with Charity and Miguel's exits.

And FINALLY-- the drama at the Russell household.

CHEERS-- To Eve, and her extraordinary portrayer, Tracey Ross.  This week's scenes were nothing short of phenomenal.  Eve owning up to her past, even if the *outing* of it was against her will, was great.  FINALLY-- a little bit of payoff.  The best part was Eve not really apologizing for her past.  She apologized to TC for lying about it-- but didn't really apologize for doing it.  This is EXACTLY how this scene needed to be handled.  Eve owes TC absolutely no explanation for the misdeeds in her past, other than to say that she has learned from them-- and CLEARLY made herself a better person.  That doesn't get all swept under the rug because she made a few mistakes in her past (I don't care how big they were-- they were just that, MISTAKES.)

JEERS--  Liz.  Just when I thought I couldn't hate her more, the writers come and write her freakin' crocodile tears, when Eve FINALLY tells the truth.  She exposes her whole nasty plan, and it looks like everyone was gonna turn on Liz, and she explains it away.  Such BULL.  I hated these scenes.  TC hugging on her like Liz was truly the victim.  I've said it once and I'll say it again-- the show REWROTE the backstory on this-- we now learn that the two of them, Liz and Eve, don't even share the SAME FATHER!!  How in the world can you hold Eve accountable for her sister?!?  Honestly-- is there ONE SINGLE VIEWER who buys Liz's misdirected hostility?  I'm not even trying to pick a fight-- I honestly want to know.  Because I just don't see it.

CH*JEERS-- This one goes to Julian.  Cheers to him for having the guts to embrace Eve when everyone was staring daggers at her for her past.  Who are these self-righteous hacks?!?  But-- Jules gets a thumbs down when he didn't back up Eve's story about Liz.  I know that nobody would have believed him-- but still-- he should have at least said that Eve was telling the truth.  If only for Eve to hear that she had an ally.

JEERS-- Ivy.  Ivy could have blown Liz out of the water, too.  Ivy knows the truth about Liz, she also knows that Liz has no idea what Ivy is holding over Eve.  Why didn't Eve and Ivy team up against Liz and blow her butt out of the water?  I mean, I know that TC wouldn't have believed her-- BUT Sam probably would have believed Ivy-- and that would have been SOMETHING for Eve.

This whole storyline is so ridiculous, and it is such a cheap payoff for what happened.  Why hasn't anyone mentioned that Eve was NOT Julian's wh*re?  They were REALLY in love.  Yes, Julian caved to his father's demands, but their feelings for each other were genuine.  Jules may have pulled a few small misdeeds, but the fact remains that Eve stuck around and they shared a significant relationship.  This NEEDS to be explored.  They did and still do share a love and a powerful connection.

Best part of the week-- When Eve let Liz have it, even if nothing came of it-- it must have felt great for Eve's character to FINALLY get out 2 years of aggression towards the woman who had made her life a living hizell.

Worst part of the week-- This belongs to "Hypocritney" Russell.. read my RANT OF THE WEEK for more detail.

And now-- for my RANT OF THE WEEK-- Who in the world does Whitney think she is?  Slapping her mother like that-- if I were Eve, I would knock the holy crizzap out of that ungrateful wench.  Honey, that wh*re as you so delicately called her, put your butt through tennis lessons, kept you in clothes, fed you, MUST be giving you money now, seeing as TC hasn't worked in about 2 years, and SOMEOBODY must be giving Whitney money so she can buy all of that MARK. stuff.  UGH!  Someone needs to slap Whitney and slap her good.  I hear Simone is gonna be handing it to Whitney once she hears Chad and Whitney are planning to get married, AGAIN.

Which brings me to the ever-so-rare BUT totally-deserved second RANT OF THE WEEK-- According to spoilers I have read, Simone is gonna go back into her "you-stole-Chad-from-me-and-now-you-must-die" mindset.  This is SUCH a waste.  I really like nuSimone, and this is just a WASTE.  This story has been DONE.  Yes, we all know that Simone got her heart broken, and yes-- it is ALL Whitney's fault.  Whitney made Chad lie and lead Simone on for a VERY LONG TIME.. but it's been DONE.  Weren't the writers semi-hooking up John and Simone when all the kids were up at the cabin?!?  C'mon writers-- if this is ALL you can do with the Simone character.. why don't you have Hypocritney "accidentally" kill her or something-- that way Whitney can feel guilty about it for the rest of her life, and maybe Whitney would DIE from the grief.  GAWD-- I am just hating the way this story is going.  Here's hoping nuSimone can bring some extra spice to these scenes.  Maybe it'll be more interesting once we see the new actress's portrayal of Simone's pain.  But hey-- an actress is only as good as her lines-- so she's probably gonna drown in the ridiculous writing.  But-- I'll hope for the best, anyway.

Til next week,
Censor
