"New" does not mean better. WB,
remember that when loyal fans dwindle in numbers. I loved the common person's approach of
the show and have watched it since the pilot episode. I am worried that I wasted my time
for a partial season. I could have watched Melrose Place instead. If I want to see
scantily clad women on TV, I'll subscribe to the Playboy Channel. Sorry, but NO. It looks
like I have an excuse to go out of my house now and not be a couch potato on Monday night.
Why change a good thing? Have faith in what was like curling up with a good book on a
rainy day, instead of fantasizing with a girlie mag when mother and father are asleep. I
think it is time for America to boycott television. If the WB has altered this show in an
extreme way, then the WB has lost its creative, refreshing and "new" edge to
programming. I don't look forward to hanging my head down in shame come January 25th.

Yes, you can spice up a show with a little more
sex, but don't become ridiculous. Yes, sex sells, South could give Nick a chance with the
red head who came and worked for Dennis before the changes. Develop Trudy into something
more than a bubble-head ex-cheerleader dependent on a man to get her through life. Show
Jennifer making her way besides being Dennis' happy homemaker. Build on Amy's role. Bring
in the guy who she a the affair with. This will add more gas to the flame between Amy and
Nick. You could even involve the Nick and Dennis parents into
the show. What does Mom do besides stay at home? Maybe a little more publicity about the
show. Look what it did for Felicity and Buffy. All the show interviews starts after the
changes where made. There were other ways to spice up the show besides having bed hopping
adults who have no control over their hormones.

I never new that "Hyperion Bay"
existed until I heard Carmen Electra was joining the cast. I started watching the show in
late November to see what it was like. I though it was a good show, but it seemed a little
slow at times and I'd find myself watching Monday Night Football instead. I was hooked on
seeing Carmen on Baywatch last year, and was really disappointed when she left. But now
that she's on a new show, I'm really excited, since I'm attached to Carmen and not the way
the show used to be. I know I'll be watching Hyperion Bay every Monday night. Of course
I'll watch every show Carmen's in so I'm biased towards her, and just because I know I'll
like it doesn't mean it's going to be a good show as far as anyone else is concerned. One
positive note for all of the fans that were there from the beginning, as far as I know
none of the original cast members have left or are leaving the show. So if you have a
favorite actor you could try to focus on that instead of the changes in the show. I know
the "buzz" sounds really bad to the loyal fans of the original show, but I
myself would want to see it to believe it first.

I will watch at least 3 episodes (if I can
stomach the changes) before I cast my vote pro or con. I have a not so funny feeling that
I won't be able to watch more than one, even half of one. Bringing on some well endowed
sexophant from borewatch was a bad idea. No offense Carmen Dimbulb but you in HB is like
the "old" cast of HB being on MP or Baywatch...oh wait, they are now..I forgot.
Man this blows. Monday Night football sucks too. Alley o' Beans sucks, just another reason
to hate Mondays. Not only bad rush hour driving, bad days at work, but now bad days on the
television. this is a travesty. What are the jock itch encrusted testo men supposed to do
now? Flip from football to HB? At least change the show time so THEY will have more to
watch. Oh well. I don't know if I even want to watch. I have fond memories. It is like a
death in the family. You don't remember them in death, but in their prime of life. Long
live the "OLD" HB!

As much as I would like to say that I can make
a fair and impartial opinion about the changes that seem to be on the way for Hyperion Bay
I can not.
There is a very simple reason for that. I started watching this show from day one. It
wasn't sex appeal, it wasn't arsons, or fist fights, or any of the junk you see in shows
like Beverly Hills and Melrose Place that made me watch this show. Or made me care about
the characters on this show. What hooked me on Hyperion Bay was the shows realism. The way
it made you care about the characters. The way that the show managed to take it's time
developing the storylines, and the characters, without slowing the pace of the show down.
I could careless that so called pro critics called the show slow moving. I learned a long
time ago not to listen to them. They are hardly ever right. And the ones who work for
Entertainment Weekly are the worst.
If the changes that are said to have been made, have been made then it is truly a sad
day. Hyperion Bay will have been ruined, and the seemingly unfounded fears some people had
about Frank South becoming the producer of this show will not be so unfounded. I for one
believed him when he said he would not be making drastic changes to HB. It would appear
that I was played for a fool. Something I'm not overly fond of. But then again not
something I can do much about in this case. About all I can do is say this:
To the people at the WB Television Network. You have made a huge mistake by not letting
this show develop in the manner in which it started. By changing it to a clone of Melrose
Place, something that 99.9 percent of the shows fans did not, and do not want you to do,
you have shown how little respect you have for the fans, and for the creators and actors
of this once quality show. I fear that if a show of Hyperion Bay's quality can be turned
into trashy night time soap, then no show on the WB is safe. What show will you ruin next.
Felicity. It moves slowly, develops it's characters slowly. So why not add Pam Anderson as
a teacher and have her steal Noel? Maybe Dawson's Creek will be next? We have already seen
evidence of it going the way of BH 90210 this season. Oh oh wait. What about 7th Heaven. A
truly great show about a large family dealing with day to day real life issues. Why not
have the daughters start to sleep around? Or Matt can become a raging alcoholic with a bad
coke addiction to boot. And the father can start to have affairs with the people from his
church.
None of those ideas sound very good do they? At least I hope they don't. So if they
don't sound good, why did you think it was a good idea to destroy Hyperion Bay. I have
said it before and will say it again and again. The only problems Hyperion Bay ever had
were it's time slot, and the lack of any real promotion.
One last thing. If you believe that you have done what your audience wanted with HB.
Well I suggest you fire who ever told you that the fans of this show, and this network,
want to watch a clone of Melrose on Monday nights. Because they were way off. So far off
that it isn't even funny. Maybe you should try hiring a group young adults, a mixture of
the people who actually watch your shows. Get there opinions, then let the goofs in the
suits decide whether or not to listen. At least then it would at least look like you
cared.
You have destroyed one of the last decent shows on television. Thank God for Providence
on NBC. Though I'm sure it will have a complete format change or get cancelled in the near
future. Why not. It's only a good quality show. Much the same as HB once was.
--Rich (A disgruntled fan)
Here's my opinion of the "new Hyperion
Bay". I went down today and plunked down money to join a health club. Monday night
I'll be hitting the tread mill, exercise bike, etc. The VCR will be running, and I'll
check on the "new" season. Other than that, I'll watch my stock price. Maybe
Time/Warner will make a big jump. That would be a bright spot. Color me: disgusted.

Hyperion Bay was a wonderful show. I was hooked
from the very first episode. I've tried to figure out what is was about the show that made
it have such a dramatic affect on me and the only thing I can reason is that was Quality
with a Capital Q. The casting was superb, the story lines were so real, the setting and
premise was so fresh. I don't know what demographics this show was intended for but to me
it had something for everyone.
Past tense? Well, I've read all the scoop on the "New" Hyperion Bay and it
seems that all of the good in the show went out with the "new". Arson and
stalkers? The intrigue I enjoyed was watching the relationships between the characters. I
believed in Dennis and Jennifer and no matter what monkey wrench Trudy threw in their
relationship was a keeper. What was going to happen to make Trudy realize this? And poor
Nelson. His character was so right on to so many ex high school jocks that it was almost
painful. But his character was even given feelings and some sense. But how was he going to
deal with the "alternative fuel" cars being brought into town? And Nick and Amy?
I was rooting for them to get back together. There was intrigue with them exploring other
relationships but one scene with them looking at each other and you got the feeling theirs
was a love that would last forever. And Marcus? Could you have a better role model on TV?
I doubt it. So he used education as a way to escape a troubled childhood. DUH?? Best new
role to be put on TV this century! But, intrigue, would he get involved with Trudy? Or,
learn that she was using him to get to Dennis? Or would Trudy, now that was more intrigue,
what about Trudy? No way would she get Dennis so what would happen there? See, the show
had plenty of intrigue without Arson and stalkers. And don't forget the high-tech boss
that shows up on PC video. (Oh yea, he's Carmen's dad but she's gonna take over his
company.) His character made me think that he was one of the savviest business men in the
world. Obviously he was fiction. No one could have that much insight into company
business, personnel and be successful. But he was great to watch and the twists he gave
the show were intriguing.
The town of Hyperion Bay was a beautiful place to visit once a week and spend an hour
with some mighty fine people. Even Dennis and Nick's parents were intriguing. How would
Frank help Jennifer with her restoration business? Would Frank realize his mistake in not
supporting Nick in his attempt to develop the old drive-in property? Would they get back
together in business and capitalize on the prosperity Muse2 brought to Hyperion Bay? Would
the guy Nick went to work for be a sleaze bag and would Frank be there for Nick when it
all implodes? How would Marjorie's relationship with Amy be changed as Amy explored other
relationships. Amy was the daughter Marjorie never had. There was so much intrigue in this
show it reeked of it.
Typically I read more than I watch TV. Hyperion Bay for me was like a good novel that I
could pick up every Monday night for the pure enjoyment of it. Looks like its back to the
library for me.
BTW, if anyone out there has a complete VHS recording of the show I'd be willing to pay
for a copy. What a great way to spend time on a cold wintry night than with good fire and
the original Hyperion Bay episodes.
The Hyperion Bay we've loved will be sorely missed. I'll be checking out Providence
this week.
--Really bummed in Dallas
Any one remember "New" Coke?
When you make something because a marketing guy suggests it, doesn't mean it's gonna sell.
The only good thing about making HB like MP is that the audience will grow (so maybe they
will put the first few episodes out on tape). Can't wait for the 25th (since I am yet to
see the teaser everyone is taking about).

Now here are my comments. Actually a
question to the WB executives. Why? Why bring on a show and produce 9 episodes and than
decide to change it? Why have people start caring when you had no intentions of continuing
on? Why HB? If this is the type of show you wanted than create a new one and leave ours
alone. I would have much rather seen the show fade away to black then watch characters
that I've come to love be destroyed. We the fans did not deserve this. We have been loyal
to the show and to the WB network. Not anymore. HB was the only show I made a point to
watch every week. And because of HB, I found myself sitting down an hour earlier and
watching 7th Heaven. I would catch it once and a while but since HB started I never missed
an episode of 7th Heaven either. Not anymore.
I no longer know what to say. I don't think there are words that can express
how sadden, disappointed and betrayed I feel right now. Betrayed by the WB Network and by
Frank South. Frank, I guess you can now add HB to that long list you were so kind to give
us. Too bad HB won't be on the "quality shows" side anymore. But the
"trash" side is getting longer by the minute. You are definitely making a name
for yourself in this industry. If you want trash call Frank South. He's the man. I know
this is gonna sound bad but I hope after the first few new episodes people will stop
watching (I know I will. Once Nick and Amy are gone so am I) so that the ratings drop. I
think it's time the Networks and those stupid executives realize that people (fans) will
not put up with them turning great shows into trash.
Well that's all I have to say. I feel like it's a waste of time though. Just
like the last few months have been. Coming on here and fighting for the show and my
favorite couple. Frank must have been laughing he's head off at all of us. The joke is on
us guys. Frank South gets the last laugh (unless the ratings go down then we get to laugh
last).
--NaAF
Just wanted to say that the posts by KingRich, AMTTaylor, and NaAF are totally
right on! Very well stated. All of us who have watched the show from Episode 1 have been
betrayed. One excellent point made my NaAF was the lead in quality of 7th Heaven. I had
never watched 7th Heaven until I started watching Hyperion Bay. The show was an excellent
lead in for the next hour. I can't see how a solid family drama can setup an audience for
Baywatch, I mean, Hyperion Bay. So WB loses viewer in two time slots. Gee, that's
effective programming.
