Censor's Passions Commentary - April 18, 2004

From Censor, for About.com

The week begins with the aftermath of the accident involving Eve and Julian, and with the adoption of Little Ethan—it was an impressive week by former Harmony standards—so let’s just dig right in, shall we?? Also—the column this week includes an offshoot of the Beverly Hillbillies, so make sure you read all the way through, guys!!
Whitney and Chad see Evian and embracing and making out, and Whitney sees red. She wishes that her father would hurry up and get there, so TC can see them for themselves and the secret can be out once and for all. But TC shows up and only sees an old, classic car, Eve is feigning unconsciousness on the other side, while Julian hides. Whitney is furious (why don’t you just TELL TC if you want him to know so bad, huh??) Whitney, Eve and TC leave for the house, taking Chad’s car, while he stays behind and waits for the tow truck. Whatever happened to TC’s deep seated hatred of Chad?? All of a sudden, he’s taking his car and thanking him for getting to the scene of the accident so quickly?? How soon we forget. (or should I say—how soon we are “expected” to forget.) Chad and Julian spend some time together... I guess this is some lame attempt by the writers to show them “bonding and understanding each other” before the reveal that Chad is his son. (and may I say... EWWWW!!!) Chad makes it back to the house and Whitney is sending death rays to her mom... Eve is called to the hospital and ONCE AGAIN—takes Chad’s car... only this time—Chad wasn’t even there to give permission—what a happy family we are, aren’t we??
Later in the week, Pilar suffers another nosebleed and faints at Hank’s apartment. Hank takes her to the hospital, and later agrees to keep it secret from her family at Pilar’s request. Eve arrives at the hospital (in Chad’s car) and puts Pilar on a new treatment. Whitney storms to the hospital, wanting to yell at her mom again. But Eve will not allow Whitney into the office because she wants to protect Pilar’s privacy. Whit immediately believes that Eve must be in there with her LOVER, Julian. Not that I support Whitney’s actions in one little bit. But unfortunately—this is what happens when you hide things. People automatically begin to suspect the worst. Especially after you have been “semi-caught”, but ask the person who caught you to help you continue the lie. IT NEVER WORKS.
Antonio and Sheridan, after running into Luis dressed as everyone’s favorite character, Baldy McJanitor, head home to reaffirm their love to each other. Antonio keeps replaying the conversation where Alistair told him that he needed to “knock Sheridan up good” if he wanted to cement his relationship with Sheridan. Silly me—I thought marriage cemented a relationship, but alas—in Harmony—you must have a child in order to trap someone into being with you forever. (Gwen—are you reading this??) Antonio confronts Alistair on the fact that Alistair may have had something to do with the disappearance of Sheridan’s baby—Alistair, threatened, fires back insults about Antonio’s “manhood”, and the two fight.
Alistair returns to his office, only to be confronted by Julian about the “stunt” with his son at Sally Chinn’s restaurant. Jules lays into Alistair, and Alistair says he will never know his son, it is a very highly protected Crane secret. And then Alistair opens the trusty safe, only to find his precious files MISSING. This was classic. Julian was laughing and taunting Alistair so much I thought I was gonna cry. Alistair originally accuses Julian, but changes his tone when Julian points out the obvious. “If I had the files, would I be here begging for information on my son??” This was GREAT. Julian doesn’t care if the family secrets come out. Alistair brings Lola from the casino into the office and after scaring the bejezus out of this girl, she picks Luis out from a picture as the man who paid her to lift the key. This sends Julian into regales of laughter. “You’re going to get busted by Luis??” That’s classic. These were great scenes with Julian this week. I was getting a little tired of the everyday softy Julian—it was nice to see him give Alistair a little grief this week. Alistair picks up a gun and says “Luis will never destroy this family” and heads to Hank’s.
