Censor's Passions Commentary - March 27, 2004

From Censor

This week finds Charity staring across the way into Tabitha’s house to see Kay and Miguel bonding as a family. Charity is overcome with sadness at what her life has become. Sam and Ivy confront Charity on the fact that she is flunking out of school. Charity says that she just doesn’t care and has nothing to live for anymore. Later, Ivy tries to get Charity out of her doldrums (this is new territory for Poison Ivy—other than Ethan, I have NEVER seen her spend so much time trying to cheer up anyone—not even her own children) Ivy comes to the realization that Charity’s destiny is to go to fashion design school? (Excuse me while I fall out of my chair and bruise my ribs laughing—Charity has a few websites marked, never mentioned that she was interested in Fashion.. and now she could be a model on the runways in Europe?? They could have done this storyline with Theresa.. but not Charity—it smacks as grasping for straws.. and maybe leading to an exit for Charity??)

Sheridan and Antonio keep pledging their love to each other, yet Sheridan cannot get Luis out of her innermost thoughts and ends up saying Luis’s name while in the sack with Antonio. (OUCH—once again Antonio explains it away, because he refuses to see the truth—that he is just second best) Sheridan succumbs to Antonio’s line of reasoning and begins to burn all of her mementos of the SHUIS relationship.

Kay hates working at the cannery, but loves that she gets to come home to Miguel every night. Simone asks Kay if it was worth giving up her life for this.. and Kay says it just might be worth it, seeing how she and Miguel are bonding. We see Maria’s first words— “mama”.. this is actually on time for a soap for a change.. Maria would be about 9 months old in real time. (Could the Passions writers be (GASP!) trying to follow a more realistic storyline time??) Kay is continually chided by the women at the cannery. Passions is completely wasting Louise Sorel’s (DORT’s) talent.. it is an embarrassment—we should see her getting involved with the Theresa storyline.. because we all know that “Vivian Alamain” could kick Rebecca Hotchkiss’s butt every day of the week and twice on Sunday, but hey—its not my soap to write.

Charity runs into Father Lonigan on the dock—and FINALLY tells someone about the deal with Death to save Maria. And Fr. Lonigan tells her that the deal could never have been made, because death is not allowed to manipulate “mortals”.. but Charity has lost so much faith that she tells Father Lonigan to give up on her, that his prayers will be wasted.. she has lost her faith, and her hope.

Luis continues to mourn the loss of his lady love, Sheridan. Beth gets Sheridan to “make” her over so that she can have a night alone with Luis since Pilar has agreed to watch the baby. (some makeover—she looked just as boring as ever to me.. but I digress) Luis comes to dinner, and Beth and Luis dance to “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O’Connor. It was their song in high school. BLAH. Luis isn’t into it, Beth blames it on the fact that the dress she is wearing is Sheridan’s.. and blasts Luis for not being able to move on from Sheridan. (give up Beth—just freakin’ give up!!) She quickly apologizes and Luis leaves. The next day, Luis returns to the Wallace house to tell Beth that he is going to bring down Alistair—no matter what it takes. Luis gets Hank to bring him some things so he can apply at Crane Industries. We see Luis as an old man—very good makeup work here.. bald head, bad posture—Galen actually looks about 70 here. Beth runs to “warn” Alistair and gets served a nasty liplock by the king of nastiness (collective EEEWWWWW here.. that was gross—but at the same time.. I would love to see Beth not be able to get out of the deal with Alistair—I can think of no worse fate than having to deal with that man as a potential lover)

And onto the custody battle. The judge rules to take away custody from Theresa for 1 year, to allow her to get her life in order. Theresa is crushed, but is reassured by Whitney, Chad and Fox that this is not the end of the world. Gwen, after Rebecca pulls her “evil stepmother” routine and starts planning to “ship little Ethan off to boarding school” (although I suspect she isn’t acting), suggests to Ethan that they adopt little Ethan to “save” him from Julian and Rebecca. AND ETHAN AIN’T BUYING IT!!! Thank Gawd.. finally—we see a tingling of a spine in this wimpy man.. he refuses to cater to Gwen’s desires. Theresa loses it upon hearing Gwen’s desire to adopt her child and threatens to kill her. Gwen and Rebecca cry that Theresa assaulted Gwen—I must have missed that on my TIVO.. because all I saw was Theresa yelling.
