Why Michelle Stafford Left 'The Young and the Restless'

Michelle Stafford

It was Michelle Stafford's choice to leave The Young and the Restless after  playing Phyllis on the CBS soap for 15 years. She made the decision because she wants to try her hand at comedy.

Toward this goal, she has a new comedy webseries The Stafford Project, which debuted today, according to TV Guide, which reports that it is an up-close-and-personal look at reality TV, Hollywood agents and Stafford's less-than-successful love life.

"A primary reason I have left Y&R is that I want to do comedy," Stafford told TV Guide. "I decided I needed to create something for myself, and you write what you know, right? I teamed up with my two friends, Paige Long and Paige Dorian, and we came up with The Stafford Project as a way of finding the humor in all the degrading things that happen to me. I just lead that kind of life."

Stafford goes on to reassure her fans that her exit had nothing to do with Executive Producer Jill Phelps or Head Writer Josh Griffith, who, by leaving Phyllis lying in a bed in a coma, have left the door open for her return -- if she so decides.
