The Young and the Restless head writer, Maria Arena Bell, made it clear that Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) is still very much on the show, despite published reports to the contrary. "Mel is a phenomenal character, one of the core characters of the show," said Maria. "We love Mel. She's one of the hearts and souls of Y&R. We sent [Nikki] out of town to go to rehab. Don't be worried. She'll be back." She also said she forgot to thank her mentor, Bill Bell in her acceptance speech for Outstanding Writing Team. "Bill really took me under his wing and I learned everything from him," she said.
