Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore will appear on As the World Turns in a brief cameo, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Moore got her start on ATWT in 1985, playing the Hughes half-sisters. In a walk on, which EW.com reports could be taped as early as this Wednesday, Moore will greet Bob and Kim Hughes and wish them well. Longtime viewers will remember that Moore won an Emmy in 1988 for playing Frannie and Sabrina Hughes.
Will this be the first of many big send-offs before ATWT goes off the air in September? I think it might be a sign that CBS realizes that it shouldn't have sent Guiding Light out with a whimper, and should instead celebrate long-running soaps before putting them out to pasture. (Speaking of Guiding Light, I'll be at Mohegan Sun this Sunday to cover the final "So Long Springfield" event. Let me know if you're planning to attend, and we can arrange a Soap Opera Allie Meet-Up!)

How cool of her to come back! That’s class.
I agree that they looked tacky by ending Guiding Light the way they did. Maybe this is to make up for it, or maybe it’s just a ploy for ratings. Either way, it’ll be fun!
don’t get too excited. sounds like if you blink you’ll miss her.
Will she have scenes with Maura West???? That would be something.
They’re going out with a BANG, but I wish they were not taking ATWT off the air AT ALL!!! The storyline is always interesting, not like that stupid Bold and the Beautiful that has the same storyline over and over.
Man, her career must really be in the crapper! Talk about slumming.
So glad to see this classy lady again. but so sad it is on the occasion of ATWT preparing to go off the air. My daily guilty pleasure.
Just the fact that such great actress as Julliane Moore will be on the ATWT adds legitimacy to this show. Even an exploding star lights up the universe if only for an instant.
My you’re poetic Ed Foster! I heard this rumor a few days ago. Very exciting.
Allie –
I am going to Mohegan Sun for the “So Long Springfield” day. The best part will be early afternoon — pics and hugs with the stars. I emailed you. Let’s get together up there. We can chat soaps at the slots. Ha!
Luv ya,

Good for her! I agree that it’s a classy thing to do.
Just checked out the “So Long Springfield!” thing. That looks likes fun. Haven’t decided if I’ll go or not, depends on whether my mom decides to come down for the weekend. I’ll email if you I can make it.
I think this is very exciting. Julianne Moore is a fantastic actress, and good for her to go back to her roots and give back to the show that helped give her her start! She’s classy all the way around.
i wonder if any other ‘blasts from the past’ will showup in the last few months before it’s gone forever. i hope so. such a damn shame.
I thought about going to that “So Long” event for The Guiding Light. I think I’m going to sit it out. Seems too commercialized, and I was afraid it would also feel like a funeral. I hope you’ll let us know how it goes.
Would it kill u to tell us when the episode is airing? Sayin.
La’Shawn, dear, there is no air date for the episode yet. When CBS sets an air date, we’ll pass it on.
SO Allie
Please get up and personal with Kim…for me
give ‘em all hugs 4 me.
it’s a reminder that the end is near.
maybe next year it’ll be as the world turn at mohqan sun. indian gamblers.
It will be sad when ATWT goes off the air.
