Passions Canceled - Take 2

That didn't take long! Variety reported, earlier this week, that DirecTV has decided to cancel Passions less than six months after acquiring it from NBC. Their current plan is to air Passions through August 2008, reducing the weekly episodes from four to three starting in January. The question is whether Passions will be picked up by yet another entity keeping it on the air past next August...

why not bring the soap to soap net like they should have before leaving nbc .
This is one of the worst cases of bait and switch that I have ever seen. It seems that Direct TV pulls this kind of thing all the time. When I signed up I was promised a free gift. They sent me all the paperwork, I filled it out and sent it in. I then received a letter saying I wasn’t eligible. They are a disgusting company.
I was not surprised that DirecTV was going to cancel Passions. Somewhere I read that the Oxygen channel considered welcoming Passions, I am not sure.
If so, it would be great! Also I heard that in a few years, some or all of the soap opera shows will move to the cable channels. If so, it is fine with me.
A few months ago, when Passions moved to DirecTv, I decided not to add DirecTv because I had a bad gut instinct that the cancellation may happen again. God enough, I was right.
Does anybody know why this happened again? Were there low ratings?
From it’s inception, PASSIONS’ storylines moved along at the pace of a herd of slugs. And, in most daytime dramas, there is eventual story resolution. PASSIONS has storylines that have NEVER been resolved which also adds to the frustration of viewers. Who wants to invest time in a drama that constantly leaves fans hanging? PASSIONS was so novel and a lot of fun when it first aired, but they lost me (and most of the audience) a long time ago. I’m not surprised by this outcome.
I did not follow Passions to DirecTV. Mainly because of how it “wrapped up” on NBC. It got too ridiculous even for me.
I didn’t have a good expectation DirecTV’s part in the production. Especially sincethe writers (Reilly) were going to take the storylines to higher levels that they weren’t able to do on a network. Well, Reilly didn’t learn anything from his work for NBC — he didn’t wrap up storylines in a timely manner. Many of them are the same since the beginning of the series.
His current storyline about Vincent being pregnant is beyond ridiculous. It reminds me of a science fiction book I once read. Quite frankly, I am glad that the series is being cancelled!
I felt passions would not last long on directv.because most people do not spend all that money to get directv just to see a soap.i got it cause i liked passions .directv just wanted people to buy it.i hope they fine someplace that will keep it on.. soap ch has my old soap on it ryans hope late at night.that was canceled years ago.they put on alot of old soaps so maybe they will put on passions. a soap with alot of kids in it just do not make it.passions was most different from the soaps of today.i hope it will stay on
i really loved passion and i was really mad to find out that i was canceled the first time but now that its cancel a second time i am a bit happy because i hope that there is a chance for me to watch it again. this soap was not like any other kind of soaps ya the story did go on for a lonnnnnng time but…did you not come back the next day,and the next,and the next just to see if you would finaly see what was going on … i know that i made me really egured to know and that made me come back every DAY and well i really miss passion and i cant wait to see it again i really want to know what is going on with ethan and terressa, and kate and migual and fox…. theses are things that i would come back to see….. the only really sad thing that evr happen to this show was when little timmy died (may he RIP) i really loved is carrecter….. well i am kepping my fingers crose BRING PASSION BACK AND DON’T EVEN TAKE IT AWAY AGAIN!!!!
I think Direct tv is rediculous they aquire passions to get more customers and they cancel it.now the customers that ordered direct tv just to keep up with passions are in a contract with direct tv for 1 yr or more now customers are stuck with direct tv and no passions,I have had direct tv before and they pull theese stunts alot with hiddden and fees and soforth I have watched passions from the beginning and I would hate to see it go,I hope the put it on soap net for and cable or satelite company to air even if it went back to NBC that would be better!Direct TV should allow people who ordered their service for PASSIONS to be able to break their contracts since they could air the show through the entirety of the contract!!!
i knew this would happen. i hate direct tv but loved passions and stayed with my carrier and i really miss passions. if passions went to soap net, the audience would have been there, and people like me would not have to have give soap…. now is the time to do the right thing and bring it to soap net…
If Passions does get picked up again, wherever they go, Mr. Riley MUST do something about his SICK storylines!!! I’m all for being entertained, romanced and “taken away” from reality for a bit. But lately, the disgusting tales of rape & incest are REVOLTING! Is it any wonder viewers are giving up in droves? Give the fans what they want-exciting stories, with depth & heart, something to invest in–and less of the year in/out drudgery of repeated old tales too. Even we can recite some of their lines by now! I LOVE Passions, please save it before it’s too late!!!
i have watched the show from the beginning.i can’t figure out why they’d take it off nbc after 9 years, then move it to directv,now talking about canceling the show.
I HAVE WATCHED PASSIONS FROM DAY 1 AND WAS REALLY UPSET WHEN IT MOVED TO DIRECT TV. I LOVED THE SOAP BUT I DID NOT MOVE TO DIRECT TV BECAUSE I AM LOCKED INTO MY CARRIER AS I KNOW SO MANY OTHERS ARE AS WELL. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE SOAP THRU THE UPDATES AND I AM GLAD I NEVER SWITCHED BECAUSE I TOO AGREE THE SOAP IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS,I HAVE BEEN WATCHING SOAPS OVER 20 YEARS ANH EVERY SOAPS STORY LINES COME TO AN END AND ANOTHER BRGINSAND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE EXCITING. PASSIONS STORYLINES NEVER END AND THAT IS WHY VIEWERS LOSE INTEREST. I MEAN THE THERESA ETHAN STORYLINE HAS BEEN GOING ON 4 EVER AND HAS GOTTEN SO DUMB THAT IF I WAS AT DIRECT TV I WOULD HAVE REALLY BEEN PISSED, IT HAS SUCH GOOD CHARACTERS SOMEONE SHOULD BRING IT BACK AND PUT SOME EXCITEMENT IN IT. ALSO IF IT COMES TO AN END END IT ON REGULAR TV TYING UP STORYLINES AND GIVING THE FANS AN END
I fell in love with the characters. I really miss some of teh old character though. I didn’t switch to Direct TV because it was to expensive. I really hope it does get picked up though. I love Ethan and Theresa.
I am not surprised at all that it is being cancelled…I say it’s the writers fault for not moving along the SL’s…he simply needs to move them along & wrap up some of the SL that has long been going on a merry go round ride…people get tired of seeing the same ole things happening, day after day after day…I just think they need a new story writer, one that will move the show along, instead of making 1 single day last for a month or more!!!!
i am extremly angry, i switched to directv because i am a diehard Passions fan, and now they are cancelling it and i am locked into this so called contract…believe me i will be contacting directv and complaining either they should let us out of our contracts with no penalty or keep pasions on
I hope someone picks up Passions–someone who will give it the good homeit deserves Yes, it is a weird and wacky show that frustrates its fans, but as “Pilar” once said, “There is nothing else ike it on TV!”

I was not very happy with Directv for Passions did not have captions closed. Many peole were deaf and hard of hearing that they did not hear What do Passions say program or recap?
I have watched since the beginning.
When it moved to Direct TV I was upset because I generally watched it on the computer because of working as I watched the other soaps I liked on SoapNet. I could watch when I wanted to. I ended up purchasing the online version of Passions to continue watching and enjoy doing so like before. Now it will end this August 08. To any of the Soap Networks out there SoapNet should pick this up goodness you have 90210 re-runs on there so why not. I would most definitely watch!! I enjoy the story line of Allistar and all havoc this man causes in the lives of his so called family…but my most favorite story line is the Gwen, Ethan & Theresa. And I miss some of the other cast members who left when NBC cancelled them. Come back, Come back! I hope whomever is reading these comments will take the fans opinion into the decision making.

I hope they put Passions back where it was. I know it was a totally unbelievable soap opera, but that was its charm, and I MISS IT!!!!!!! So does my sister and so does my daughter. Bring it home to where it was and let us continue to enjoy it already!!
i think that passions is a really good show but the story lines drag on FOREVER… they should bring it back to cable tv lol i love the show, but it gets frustrating because the stories are the same.:(
i was also lied to by direct tv when i signed a 2 year contract they gave me a sheet to fill out and send back to receive an extra $10.00 off a month and when i did they told me i wasnt able to get it and when the installation guys came out they walked arround my front yard about 30 seconds and told me i couldnt get it because i didnt have good reception and it would be to much work for them to try my backyard how rude when i called they sent another guy out who got it working and they told me they would give me a different credit for the inconvience and i never got it
PASSIONS NEEDS A NEW HOME!! And a new writter like the ones on Days!! ISN’T there a cable channel out there to take it over?? IF I could write it I would..
It has been on for almost 9 years.. And I been watching it since it started. I hope whoever got directTV is giving them heck!!!
Why not put it on a channel or online so us Canadian’s can enjoy again also?? I know there are tons of Canadian’s out there that misses it!!
I just got a house and thought about getting Directv. (I wasn’t able to have it at my apartment) I’m completely scratching that plan now. I would rather not have any channels than give Directv another customer after this! I’m outraged! They often draw you into a 2-year contract by otherwise not letting you upgrade to a DVR for free or some crap like that. I feel so bad for Passions fans that switched. Totally repulsive!!
this sux!passions has the most beautiful cast ive ever layed eyes on.this is the best soap ever!!!yes the ethan and theresa thing is tiresome,if that bitch gwen would just die already.please nbc dont do this!uugh i hate this!!
