Goodbye Passions

Friday September 7, 2007
Today is the last day non-DirecTV viewers will be able to watch Passions on NBC. The show will start airing on September 17 for DirecTV viewers on channel 101 four days a week.

I am one of those that will be unable to continue watching the show. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I know that many of you have mixed feelings about it leaving the public airwaves for DirecTV. The feedback I've received has consisted of many people being upset that it's going to the satellite provider, others wishing it had been canceled altogether and still others that wish it had gone to a network, or provider, that is more accessible to the general population. I'm torn between wishing it was just going away to feeling left out because I will no longer be able to watch the show. On the upside many sites have stated they will be providing written recaps for fans to remain caught up, and I've been told that there is a possibility that the show MAY eventually be available on the web for a fee. I'd like to know how many of you would be willing to pay to watch Passions if the latter comes to fruition. It's definitely something I'd consider.

Would you pay to watch Passions on the web? Cast your vote and let us know what you think about this by posting a comment. Maybe DirecTV will listen.

If you have DirecTV and you're interested in volunteering to provide Passions recaps for this site, please visit our recap area to see how our daily and weekly recaps are done.

I would definitely consider it, if it was a reasonable price. I just can’t afford to switch from cable to DirecttV just for one show.

(2) Shirley says:

I would be one not to pay to watch Passions. I think it is unfare. There are some people cannot afford to watch cable Tv. What about the lower class people with disabilitie and low income. What about the people who love it. I feel that this is a bad and a disappointment. Now when the action is coming and getting better. I love even catching up on the computer.
I really hope some way we will still be able to catch up on line. Sorry to say Bad decision.

I’ve watched Passsions since the very 1st day it started. I’m sad to say that I will no longer be able to watch it now that it has gone to Direct TV. I think it was a very bad move.

I have been watching it for about 3 years and just as it starts getting good some one has to change it. It really upsets me that people change thing to better them selfs most of the time. If any one knows if people that have a sattle light dish can still watch passions could u please let me know. Here is my email to let me know, thank you. sharlenehale69@hotmail.com

(12) sandra lee says:

I began watching Passions on the first day it aired. When SciFi Network started airing the first episodes from 1999 a year or two ago, I watched and realized how much better the first couple of yeas were. I definitely will not get Directv or pay to watch it online.

(13) S says:

I will not change from cable to Direct TV for one show as some of you have also said. Since it is moving to only Dircet TV then that tells me the show was having problems so how do I know if I switch and pay all that $$$ that the show won’t still cancel at a later time anywise. If I changed and that happened I would be really upset. I am sorry that I will not be able to watch it anymore because it was starting to finally get interesting and my little 4 year old won’t get to watch the little Andorra anymore. So I will just watch Days of Our Lives as I have been for 34 years since that show did not get switched or cancelled becuase I will not pay to watch Passions on the computer that is just wrong to charge us loyal viewers. BYE BYE PASSIONS!!!!

(14) Sandi B says:

NO WAY will I be getting Direct TV. I am beginning to believe if they do this with Passions the rest of the soaps will follow suit and we will be paying dearly to watch them all.

(15) TH says:

I, too, think that Direc Tv’s prices are outrageous. I can’t afford to make anykind of switch from cable, also, I need to have cable, to have inernet, to keep my phoe. I have Vonage, so I need the Cable Company. I SUCKS that Direct Tv is taking advantage of people who really love watching Passions. I will now have no way of knowing what’s going on, and I have been watching since it’s debut, 8 years ago. Direc Tv Sucks, and I wish they would just go away, they are only making it harder to find something on regular tv. Now NBC has put on the 700 club, totally BIAS to Catholics and Christians, NOW, I have to find another channel to watch, since I, like many Americans, am not part of THAT KIND of Religion, which shows BIAS to everyone else in the free world. There is NO REASON FOR ME TO KEEP WATCHING NBC, I ONLY WATCHED PASSIONS, NOW I HAVE, AS OF TODAY, BLOCKED THAT CHANNEL FROM MY PROGRAMMING. I HOPE NBC IS HAPPY TO LOSE VIEWERS.

September 10, 2007 at 3:58 pm
(16) Emily says:

Yes, if the price was reasonable. Passions has been a daily part of my life for eight years. I know it seems silly because it’s only television, but I feel really strange knowing I can’t watch it each day when I come home from work. In fact, I hate it. DirecTV doesn’t work well in major cities, so I’m left without an option. Although I’m glad it wasn’t cancelled entirely, I fear it won’t last long. One can only hope another major network grabs Passions before it’s too late!

(17) Sharon says:

I tried to switch to directv but they are asking me to sign a contract with them. I don’t sign a contract with the cable company, why should I sign with them. Also, my parents had directv before switching to cable because of the reception. When it rains, there is no signal and you can’t watch passions. I wish directv will allow those to watch it on the web.

September 11, 2007 at 10:45 am
(18) Patricia says:

That is not cool what you have done. There’s people that can’t afford cable and you did that. I’m not watching nbc anymore

September 11, 2007 at 12:00 pm
(19) Linda says:

NBC stinks!! Passions is a great show, and I have been watching since the very first episode. Like we really need another hour of talk crap! :( This really sucks, I hope you realize how many TV viewers you have let down.

(22) Sue Stein says:

I am very sad that Passions has left the national TV and gone to pay TV only. What a =====. I am an invalid who watches Passions for recreation and fun and now what have you done, gone and put it up on Direct TV which does not always work. I will not pay extra for a system that I cannot get to, up on the roof,to repair or see what is wrong. I have been watching this soap opera since the first day it started, after you did the same thing with sunset beach. Now we have Martha, big deal. I would rather watch reruns of law and order than Martha. What you have done is wrong for most of us who cannot afford to spend extra money on a new TV system, who had the silly idea that the viewers would increase, I think they will decrease.
Whomever was in charge of the change should be bombarded with letters and any kind of mail there is. What would you do? Take the show of your choice and take it off TV and see how you like it, and replace it with Martha doing something with plants or food. I am not impressed by your stupidity, I am appalled. Hopefully, you will keep us up to date by writing the happenings on the computer and letting us peons read them.
I agree with the message before me stating you ——–!

(23) Angelica says:

i love Passions, but I will not pay online to watch it. When on the other hand I can find other free ways on the net to watch it like YouTube, or Bearshare.

September 17, 2007 at 3:28 pm
(24) Angelica says:

Oh yeah and another thing I am one of those fans who is not getting Direct TV.
Here’s what I think about this whole problem; Okay, If everyone including the actors came and sat down and actually looked and read these comments and polls they would most certainly know that this is a BIG ASS mistake. And if they did that, the show would still be on NBC. Now if Passions ratings were so low while it was on NBC, then why are so many fans saying that they watch it everyday, and that they love it? I don’t know, do you? And if you look at all the polls on the net about this you will find that most people said that they don’t have Direct TV, or they are not getting it. Even fans who said they had Direct TV in the past said that it sucks, the recptition goes out alot. SO if that is the case then why does Eric (Ethan on Passions) Keep telling us at the end of the videos to get it if the satellite provider has soo many complications? He also said that he has Direct TV and it’s quote and quote “Great”!? I am a fan of his but I thought he was lying just to promote it. Does anyone else think so? Maybe, maybe not? Anyway, I think and most other fans think that the move will make Passions worst. Eventually, the ratings for the show will drop dramtically and the show will be pulled cause it’s not bringing in veiwers nor money. I will give the show at least three months on Direct TV before they realize the show is no good. After that, we can only hope the show is picked up by another station. I’ve watch Passions for 5 years and 2 months. The show has become second nature to me, so I know that this is a Big Mistake. I can tell you a Big Mistake when I see one and this is one of them. So NBC if you are smart you will listen to the fans and do what is right. That is ALL!!! 4 Now!

(25) Jeannie says:

We have Dish TV and will NOT switch for one show. My mother and I have watched Passions from the first show and will read the re-caps to see what happens to the current storylines. Since much of what I enjoyed has slowly been written out of the show I suppose in a way this will be an easy way to stop watching it. I will miss Tabitha, Endora, and Kay!

September 19, 2007 at 11:35 am
(26) Shenita says:

I am so upset that Passions is no longer on regular TV, I would lover to at least be able to watch it online, I’m really hoping that they do something to help make Passions more available to the fan because I’m sure we are all waiting to see Teara and Ethan get together and the whole outcome
