Passions LIVE! On DirecTV

Thursday August 16, 2007
We're just a month away from Passions' debut on DIRECTV. The first episode will air September 17. Starting August 23, DirecTV will be airing four weekly specials known as Passions LIVE! The specials will air on channel, 101, at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST with new shows every Thursday. Fans can participate in each show by calling 1-800-860-8537 during the live 30-minute broadcast.

Passions LIVE! is a call-in show that will allow fans to call in and talk live with their favorite cast members. However, that's not all, the show will also introduce new viewers to the history of Passions and introduce all viewers to the people behind the characters. Each week Passions LIVE! will be hosted by Eric Martsolf (Ethan). He'll be joined by two different cast members who will discuss their roles and answer questions from the call-in audience. Fans unable to call, can also email their questions to viewermail@passionsondirectv.com to be answered on-air. Each of the shows will provide a “Passions 101” tutorial that will bring viewers up to speed on the past nine seasons, as well as character and plot highlights, bloopers and more.

Patty Ishimoto, General Manager of DIRECTV’s The 101 says “With Passions moving exclusively to DIRECTV, we’re in a unique position to put our own mark on the show by catering directly to the fans and giving them more opportunities to interact with their favorite cast members. Passions LIVE! will bring fans into the action with a direct link to their favorite stars to keep them up-to-date with all the happenings in Harmony.”

The guest-host schedule is as follows:

August 23: Juliet Mills (Tabitha) and Heidi Mueller (Kay)
August 30: Emily Harper (Fancy) and Erin Cardillo (Esme)
September 6: James Hyde (Sam) and Dylan Fergus (Noah)
September 13: Tamargo (Pilar) and Galen Gering (Luis)

Non-DirecTV viewers don't worry... each episode of Passions LIVE! will also be streamed live on the web via NBC's Passions site.

As negative as many are concerning the move, I do think this is a great way to ease fans into the change from the public airwaves to the satellite provider. I'm especially impressed that these shows are being streamed on the net for all to see. I take it as a good sign that DirecTV is trying to include all fans in the process and I'm hopeful that they will give Passions the attention it deserves and do what it takes to keep it on the air.

What do you think of this special Passions LIVE! series? Will you tune in on Thursday's to catch it? Let me know ...post a comment!

Thanks for the Passions Live info., but I have another question/issue. Are we Passions fans going to be able to watch Passions another way, once it’s off NBC, if we can’t afford DirectTV? Thanks, Shirley

Hi Shirley…I doubt you will get to see Passions once it leaves NBC..unless you have a friend who has Direct TV, and she will tape it for you….Direct TV isn’t that expensive…some start as little as $29.99 a month…check it out on the web…

(4) Lynn says:

I love Passions but I refuse to pay $29.99 a month to watch it. That money is better used elsewhere.

Shir,

I have heard nothing definite yet, but I would say that there is a possibility that eventually fans may be able to see the show online. Maybe DirecTV will decide to continue to offer the show on iTunes for purchase. We will just have to wait and see. I will make sure to post any information as I receive it.

Hi Lynn, You wouldn’t be paying $29.99 just to watch Passions, you would also be getting many channels to see as well..and I agree with you if it was just to watch Passions, I wouldn’t pay it either……

(7) Ana says:

Thanks to DirecTV for taking on Passions, if it weren’t for you we wouldn’t be able to watch it anymore. This is how I de-stress from a hectic day! I’ve been following it since the beginning.

I really like Passions live, because it gives us a chance to get to know the actors a little more better. I’m happy that Direct TV picked up my favorite soap opera!

(10) Sabrina says:

I hope that Directv posts the episodes online that I can actually watch. Right now, Passions Live and full episodes are posted on NBC.com, but I can’t watch it here in canada. It’s there, and sometimes it’ll work but other times it says that I cannot watch the video from my location. I heard that Directv is trying to put episodes online, so I’m just hoping that the videos will actually work for me here in Toronto!

I am so annoyed that passions moved to direct tv only cant even subscribe on cable such bs I have 4 tv opt on line and not gonna change my whole system for a show but sure do miss it alot thoght that was a pretty underhanded thing to do. And im not the only one who feels this way alot of my friends use to watch is losing youre fans what you wanted Oh well!!! (Use to be a fan!)

(14) Erica says:

I think its rediculious that if we want to even watch it online that we have to pay direct tv 20 dollars! NO thanks maybe direct tv should stop being money hungry and just put it on nbc’s full episodes online for free and keep it airing on their programs as well. Some people cant even afford cable like i use to tune into all the websites to watch my shoes if i couldnt come home fast enough during the day.
